Extremely pleased with Frankie Marcello's! Our server, Charles, was great. We arrived only 40 minutes before closing and never felt rushed, which is rare in many restaurants. He was helpful and friendly. He recommended our appetizer, the fried green tomatoes, and it was awesome! Very tasty. We actually split our entree, the catfish creole, and found the portions to be more than enough for both of us. They were very accommodating and even split our entree on two plates. I also got the John Paul martini and the Frankie-tini, both of which were very good. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic fare for reasonable prices. It was melt in our mouth's delicious and the waiters go out of their way to make your experience positive. They make all of their own dressings there. My son wanted more heat in his horseradish, so they made it hotter for him then their first delivery. Pretty cool! I mean you can't find that anywhere else.

Excellent food for a reasonable price. A rare combination these days. The portions are huge. Lasagna is the best in town. I also loved the Veal Picatta. Although I found the veal a little on the tough side, the veal and the pasta had an outstanding flavor. Out of three visits, myself nor my company had any complaints. Frankie's is the new kid on the block and he is here to stay. You won't be disappointed.

Everyone's food was great except mine. Never order steak at an Italian restaurant. They were really sweet and EVERYTHING but the steak was great. Homemade salad dressing was amazing on the cold, crisp salad. Mom's pork chop with mac and cheese was really good and she ate all of it with gusto--and it was a HUGE chop too. Beloved hubby had a massive meatball Po'Boy with great fries. Even the garlic bread was great and I so regretted I didn't get the chicken marsala

I didn't visit the actual restaurant. I ordered from my job site and had it delivered so, idk anything about the restaurant ... The salmon was great. Cooked perfectly and so were the potatoes. I'd order from this place again.

We had great service and the food was delicious. I noticed other people were getting garlic bread and we were not offered any. Strange... But everything's was delicious! I ate the shrimp creole, it was very salty, it was recommended by our waiter. There was not that many customers when we went in for lunch on a Saturday and I did feel like he could have provided us with a bit more refills on our drinks. The atmosphere was good but it seemed dark. My three daughters ordered lasagna and one of the portions was much smaller than the rest. My daughter didn't mind so I didn't say anything but it wasn't consistent. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Some bread would have been nice. It seemed weird. The waiter offered it to others but not to us. The sensational salad was good I felt it needed just a touch of sweetness maybe some olives. Overall my husband and girls loved the restaurant and they didn't feel so bad about their not being any bread. We also ordered two fried ravioli which were the best ravioli I had ever eaten. So they did get that right for sure! We ate it so fast I did not get a picture of it though...

Try their bow tie pasta appetizer with spinach dip. It was amazing. This restaurant is unnoticeable from the Main Street. It's has a diner environment. Overall prices and food were good!

The location is great unless you are trying to get there and also leave during lunch traffic. I had a caesar salad with grilled chicken, and it was great. My buddy had the red beans and rice with Italian sausage and surprisingly, it was delicious! The few people we went with said they have all been there multiple times and that all of their dishes they have ever tried were great and never tasted a bad thing from there.

Wow... That's all I can say, and not in a good wow either. We wanted to try this place out, but we walked in and it was completely dead first of all. So we decided that we would order a lot to support this restaurant to keep them going. We ordered a few drinks (the mint julep tasted horrible, with no mint flavor at all) and we ordered the veal piccata as well as the filet mignon. We also ordered the crawfish dip as an appetizer. The crawfish dip was VERY bland and flavorless. I was expecting at least more of a cajun taste. Next, the filet came out. It was also bland, it was cooked right, but had no flavor. The instant mashed potatoes weren't that bad either. The veal piccata came out, and I could not even swallow the first bite it tasted so horrible. It was so sour, as if they increased the acidity so that I couldn't tell the meat was bad. The meat was rubbery, and you could tell it was overcooked. I couldn't even look at it anymore. The green beans I ordered were still cold, and looked like they came out of a can or were previously frozen. The server came up, and asked if everything was alright, and I told him twice that it didn't taste right , and the second time he took it away and brought us our bill. The server was not apologetic, nor did he even offer to comp that meal (or lack thereof). Knowing we wouldn't be back again, we just paid and left. I really hate to write a review like this, but I was hoping that at least the food would be the saving grace. It wasn't.

Perfect place for dinner after a long days work. The portions are good size and the food is always delicious. The wait staff is friendly and tries to be accommodating. I love to eat their "daily" specials. And the pork chop dinner is excellent!!!

Always great service, tasty hot food, & huge portions for a very reasonable price! I love the chicken Parmesan! Relaxed atmosphere, & awesome deserts! My only wish, is that they would serve cappuccino's.

I ordered the chicken picata on major menus. I ate it because I didn't have anything else. The chicken part was not good. The pasta that is was served on was just ok. I will probably pass this place up the next time it is on major menus. I certainly won't be actually going there to eat. :(

It's in what used to be a Calendar's, and they haven't done much to make it feel like it's not still a Calendar's. The service is okay, I guess. The menu is sort of schizophrenic, featuring pricey fish dishes in fancy sauces, fried seafood platters, and various typical Italian dishes like lasagna and veal parmesan. The food is pretty mediocre. A salad with iceberg lettuce, served with dressing in a little disposable plastic cup. No thanks. Entree with a side of bland vegetables obviously poured out of a frozen bag? Um... no.

The staff was friendly but the food was the worst in town. I ordered the best steak on the menu and asked for it to be cooked "medium". We waited so long for the food, I was shocked when it came out bleeding rare, bright red in the middle with a squishy raw meat texture. When the waitress returned, I reminded her that I ordered a medium steak, so she took my plate back to the kitchen. Less than five minutes later, she brought my plate back. The steak had been cut in half and the inside edges had been grilled brown. Now I had two chunks of meat that were completely raw in the middle. When I showed her that the steak was still extremely rare, she tried to take it back for a third run, but I refused to eat a steak that was cut into quarters for another brief encounter with the grill. The manager exchanged my steak for one of their signature fish dishes. It was barely passable. I ate only because I was very hungry and was running late due to meal complications, with no time to eat somewhere else.

I went to Frankie Marcello's with my mom for lunch based on the sole fact that it's my uncle's name as well! (But not his restaurant haha). We got the spicy crawfish and artichoke dip with the fried ravioli to dip it in and it was delicious! And the perfect amount of ravioli to dip. We didn't have leftover of either. For the main stuff I had the veal marsala and she got the lasagna based on the waiter's recommendation and they were both great! The best part was when the hostess seated us she asked where we preferred to sit based on the air conditioning and TV's which was great as my mom and I are both freeze babies! I also left my leftovers at the table and when I ran in to get them the hostess was already on her way to me as she saw I left them. GREAT service and food!

Went for lunch. Nice relaxing atmosphere, clean, friendly service. Chicken and dumplings are very good with a black pepper kick. Lasagna was pretty good too. They apparently only make a certain amount of things which conveys freshness. No complaints

There are a lot of choices in Baton Rouge. This place is average at best. Good service and big portions but no thanks.

Overall, I had a fantastic time, and I will be back. I still want to try the lunch and brunch specials. I went in late on my birthday with some other Yelpers, and we had a fantastic time. As it was my first time to go, I was unsure what to try. I ended up with the Chicken Alfredo. They change it up a bit from the traditional way to prepare it. They serve it on angel hair pasta. The waiter said that the sauce is also changed up a bit, but I am not really sure how. I just know that the sauce was creamy, and the chicken was juicy and tender. The portions were very generous too; I had enough for dinner that night and lunch the next day. The waiter made sure that we had plenty of fresh garlic bread. It was absolutely delicious and kind of reminded me of making garlic bread with my mom when I was a kid. The owner came to the table, and was very friendly. He wished me a happy birthday, and was extremely friendly.

The setting here is really good. Orders in our group included a mushroom Swiss burger with sweet potato fries. It was cooked well and juicy. Boneless fried chicken was good. The salad I got with it was fresh and the ranch dressing was good. The green beans served with it are not something I would order again. A little mushy and very little flavor. Another dish at our table was lasagna. This was good as well. Good balance of sauce, meat and cottage/ricotta cheese. Drinks were very slow to come. Overall it was pretty good.

My review is based on lunch only as it is the only time I've eaten here. The atmosphere and service was outstanding. The waiter actually decided to order for my husband and he did very well. I had the lasagna which was great...lots of cheese and loved the sauce! They make all their salad dressings in house. I tried the Italian dressing and it was pretty darn good! I'll be back for sure. I really wanted to try the chocolate lasagna for dessert but I was way too full.

Service was great. Atmosphere was nice and on the classy side, yet casual, however, we were very dissatisfied. I had the meatball on French and my wife had meatball spaghetti. My wife is Italian from New York which qualifies me add a legitimate critic. At a place claiming to be Italian more than anything, they missed it. The meatball on French bread doesn't work, especially with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes and without mozzarella. The meatballs were very plain, had no Italian seasoning (parmesan, oregano), and were baked. Even the bread served on the side was French bread and was drenched in butter and garlic powder - no olive oil to dip. There was nothing Italian about this place. Aside from missing the Italian standard, it really wasn't palatable. I removed the lettuce and tomatoes, had the waiter bring some mozzarella, and added salt to make this good enough to eat, but I still couldn't finish it. Sorry, but there will not be a 2nd visit.

Disappointing. The Trout Anne Marie is WAY overpriced ($26) for what turns out to be a mediocre fish dish slathered in cheese sauce with a side of frozen steamed vegetables. Salads are all made with iceberg lettuce. Service was inattentive.

Their advertising campaign is what brought us in as any good campaign should, but advertising is not the same as reviewing by no means. The restaurant was nearly empty, and yes it still looks and feels like a Calendars or even Applebee's for that matter. The booths are crowded so tight together that unless you are real skinny(nearly 60%of America is overweight) your garments will be over the edge of the table and potentially in your food(I had to use stain/grease prewash when I got home). The service was ok. Tap beer was ok, but high priced. The pricey appetizers are small in proportion to what they are and actually cost to make. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. It has a couple of tomato slices stacked with cheese in between and a crawfish remoulade over it. For TWELVE dollars and change you would think they could at least fill the saucer it comes on. For Pete's sake its just green tomatoes with very little cheese and several crawfish tails in a remoulade sauce. It couldn't possibly cost more than three dollars for that portion size. It was three bites apiece. Although the taste was good the portioning was way off. We ordered the seafood platter and the veal marsala with angel hair pasta and red sauce. The veal was ok and the marsala sauce was fairly bland. The red sauce on the pasta tasted like canned or jarred sauce. The oysters on the seafood platter were small and dry(overcooked). The fish was mushy in the thick and dry in the thin which usually indicates frozen and overcooked. The crab balls were very tasty but just a tad mushy. The fries that all this sits on had taken all the grease and were soft and dripping with grease. The menu as well as the venue is confusing. It's not Italian/Cajun fusion, it's Italian/Cajun confusion! With all this being said we probably won't return while they are still confused about their identity. If you want Italian go to a real Italian restaurant and if you want Cajun go to a real Cajun restaurant. No identity confusion there.

Made a huge splash in its first few months of operation, but may be resting on its laurels a little bit, or just fell out of fashion .. but the 4 stars is a bit trusting, feeling like the place will rebound. Ownership and management have the qualifications and enthusiasm to make this place regain its spot as one of B.R.'s favorites.

Ate a late lunch there today - arrived at 2:30 pm and was glad to take advantage of the lunch menu. The Calamari appetizer was delicious and enough to feed the three of us. Two of us had the Veal Marsala. It was quite tasty with its veal, mushrooms, and sauce. I only wished that I could had regular spaghetti instead of angel hair; wound up ordering bow tie pasta with my veal. I would suggest that Frankie M's gives its customers the spaghetti option in the future (hey, it's Italian, right!). Our third party ordered the Lasagna. After eating about a third of it, she could no longer cut it - it was hard as a rock. The manager had it quickly replaced with another dish and apologized. In fact, the manager was quite attentive to our needs the whole time given that the restaurant was not that busy at that time of day. It was our first time to visit Frankie's and was an early Valentines Day meal out for my mother and wife. We enjoyed the experience and will be back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
